Introduction

My name is Casper Yeow. I am married to Teena and have four children - Trent (14), Tyler (11), Trinity (9) and Hayley (7). I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, commonly known as the Mormon church.  This is due to a book of scripture we use, in combination with the Holy Bible, that is unique in the Christian world known as the Book of Mormon. Not only am I a member of the church, I'm one of its leaders here in South Australia.

My official title in the church is '1st Counsellor in the Firle Stake Presidency' in South Australia. The Stake Presidency, consisting of three men (the Stake President, myself and the 2nd Counsellor), oversees and directs a group of congregations, each of which is lead by a Bishop. In mainstream Christian language, the Bishop would be the equivalent of a Pastor. Members of the stake presidency and Bishops are lay ministers. In other words, we don't get paid for the work we do in the church. In fact the church relies solely on its members to volunteer their time and other resources to keep things running.

In case anyone is wondering, I have a 'normal' day job. I am an IT professional by trade and enjoy the challenge of juggling work, church and family responsibilities each day. The balance isn't always perfect but somehow, it works.  I truly believe that 'somehow' is my faith in a loving God and my Saviour Jesus Christ, which in turn gives me real purpose in life. However, just because we have faith, life isn't always roses, and I'm not always at peace, but because of my faith, I'm able to recalibrate to 'true north' and get back on track towards what I really want to achieve in my life. The 20% of joyful, fulfilling moments are worth every bit of the other 80% of less fulfilling and challenging ones I experience.

I started this blog as a place for me to record my experiences and learnings; something I can leave my kids and their kids. However, if by chance, these experiences can help others, it'd be a bonus. I'm hoping that will be the case. If you're interested in coming along for the ride, speed bumps and all, please click subscribe below or follow by email on the left of this post. I'm sure I'd benefit from your life's lessons too.
